Fisher Autism Trilogy Through Fisher Eyes Dark Spectrum A Problem With the Moon Paul C Nelson Books Reviews
I was very excited to read this narrative about autism and thoroughly enjoyed the sections that referred to the perspective of a teen living with autism including the way he sees the world and the interesting nuances of the daily life of Fisher's family. I wish there was more on the life of a family living with autism, however, the first book takes an early turn for adventure with other gifted children in the story that includes religious overtones. Although I completely agree with the theme of acceptance and what we deem as gifted, I wanted that to come through via Fisher's experiences and stories. The narration seemed to switch from Fisher's perspective to omniscient narrator. I applaud the author for delving into this topic and sharing his talents with us, there needs to be more books reaching into this genre. I was not on board with using religious stories of good versus evil to tell it though.

t's good to see a story that gives an autistic character something to do. The characters in 'Fisher's Autism Trilogy', like real human beings, are not just lumps sitting around waiting to be pitied. They have stories, desires, failings, and personalities, but their physical disability often keeps them from expressing the way 'normal' people do.
As Fisher says in the first-person story 'Through Fisher's Eyes' "I do not talk, because it is very hard to make my mouth say the words that fly from my head. I can type, so I do that. I like to type because it helps me become free to let out the pictures in my head. I see many pictures all the time. Sometimes it is hard for me to slow them down. Dad gives me medicine. It helps. Sometimes the pictures fly in my head so fast that I have to shake my hands and make some grunting noises."
A good children's book should have 1. Strong characters who evoke strong emotion, 2. A Story that Teaches, 3. Mind-expanding concepts. "Fisher's Autism Trilogy" has all three. A handful of detailed individuals, each with separate challenges, each put through the ringer as they learn about their role in the world-wide struggle against greed, ego, and hatred. Fisher and his 'special needs' friends are simply different, and as Paul's character muses toward the end of the book "Maybe they are...part of a bigger world that most of us don’t understand."
What a beautiful story about a young boy, Fisher, who has autism, and learns that he and his friends have super powers that might help to save the world from evil, from. ghosts and from aliens - or should I say from the devastation humans being about the planet. All these adventures of Fisher and his friends are described in this trilogy, which starts recounting Fisher's life, being unable to speak and being raised by his father alone after his mother died. So one can see that superheroes are raised by superheroe parents, with the associated ingredients of compassion, tolerance and love. When he meets Michael, an angel, he learns about his super powers and begins training with his friends in order to win evil. In the second book, Fisher and his friends have to confront evil directly, fighting the demons lead by their master Belial. In the third book, Fisher, his father and friends get acquainted with Paul, an alien fruition the moon who fled slavery imposed by humans in order tho extract uranium from that planet and they all have to fight to save planet earth from destruction.
I really loved those books, not only are the adventures entertaining, but they also show that persons with disabilities are very special in a way that they know the important things in life compassion, love and tolerance. It has been an enjoyable read.
This is a beautiful fantasy trilogy, that you forget in parts is fantasy. The author captures so much of the mind of an autistic person that has a fellow autistic person, I forget I'm reading a fantasy books. Fisher is clever and adept at dealing with the world and his adventures are epic. The base of the stories be nice, you never know how hurtful your words an be. Fisher is a true superhero who could choose the dark route but instead is so filled with love thanks to a wonderful amazing father, that he saves the world, sometimes one person at a time. This is a great book to read to our children, to save with your teen or even to read as an adult.
Fisher is my new hero and stands next to Newt S from Fantastic Beast as my fellow autistic characters. Paul Nelson did a fantastic job with this series. Now let's all go fight the hard in the world like Fisher does!
