Absolutely no boring bits.

This story captured my imagination from the first page with beautiful descriptions of both modern and historical India I am tempted to visit and explore it for myself. The evil king is truly evil and powerful and the "heroes" are wonderful and flawed young people. The links between the characters both now and in the past are exciting and compelling and the story flows back and forth in parallel generating suspense and excitement.

Once I started the book I couldn't put it down and waiting for number two was hard.

Having just completed the second Pyre of Queens book I have to say if you enjoy this one you will probably love the second even more.

'Swayamvara' (number 2 of Pyre of Queens) is my favorite David Hair book and I can't wait for the next out later this year in India.

a touch of harry potter in this derivative yarn of the Ramayana. Beautifully paced and the characters are likable/hate-able and somehow realistic despite the mystic slant of the book.
