Your One Only Adrianne Finlay Books
Overall, I really liked the story for its world building and well-written characters. The world was very interesting with its take on clones and how a society like that might function. It was also really awesome to read about the various traditions, habits, and ceremonies that this society has built for themselves. The characters themselves were also great. I liked the ways they worked off of each other and the conflicts that came up due to their differences based on experience and culture. I also liked that the characters were consistent, none of their actions felt random or forced to keep the plot going in my opinion. The story itself wasn't boring either. Each chapter had a great ending that motivated me to read more. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes this type of genre.Tags : Amazon.com: Your One & Only (9780544991477): Adrianne Finlay: Books,Adrianne Finlay,Your One & Only,HMH Books for Young Readers,0544991478,Action & Adventure - General,Dystopian,Mysteries & Detective Stories,Cloning,Human beings,Human cloning;Fiction.,Human cloning;Juvenile fiction.,Identity,Identity (Psychology),Individuality;Juvenile fiction.,Science fiction,Young adult fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Fiction-Science Fiction,JUVENILE,JUVENILE FICTION Action & Adventure General,JUVENILE FICTION Dystopian,JUVENILE FICTION Love & Romance,JUVENILE FICTION Mysteries & Detective Stories,JUVENILE FICTION Science Fiction General,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Grades 10-12 Ages 15+,Science Fiction Fantasy (Young Adult),TEEN'S FICTION - ACTION & ADVENTURE,TEEN'S FICTION MYSTERY & DETECTIVE,TEEN'S FICTION SCIENCE FICTION,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Action & Adventure General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Dystopian,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Mysteries & Detective Stories,Young Adult FictionAction & Adventure - General,Young Adult FictionRomance - General,Young Adult FictionScience Fiction - General, dystopian; young adult; ya; clone; DNA; experiments; evolution; science fiction; romance; teen; individuality; humanity; love; family; mystery; civilization, dystopian;young adult;ya;clone;DNA;experiments;evolution;science fiction;romance;teen;individuality;humanity;love;family;mystery;civilization,JUVENILE FICTION Action & Adventure General,JUVENILE FICTION Dystopian,JUVENILE FICTION Love & Romance,JUVENILE FICTION Mysteries & Detective Stories,JUVENILE FICTION Science Fiction General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Action & Adventure General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Dystopian,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Mysteries & Detective Stories,Young Adult FictionAction & Adventure - General,Young Adult FictionRomance - General,Young Adult FictionScience Fiction - General,Science Fiction Fantasy (Young Adult),Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12)
Your One Only Adrianne Finlay Books Reviews
I received a free copy of this book for review. Opinions shared are mine.
What struck me as essentially unique with Your One and Only was the way that author Adrianne Finlay linked the present day (now) to ideas of the distant past (such as, apprenticeship.) Ideas like this will encourage teens to consider the way things have change and, perhaps, how life as we know it might come to pass at some point in the future. Finlay also correlates music with emotions, something many teens can relate to. Finally, readers won’t be able to resist the deep relationships forged between unlikely characters.
Your One and Only reminded me of some favorite middle grades futuristic stories. Pretties, Among the Hidden, and The Giver all came to mind as I read this book. While Your One and Only contains deeper, more mature themes, the underlying desire to connect with others is a timeless story.
Your One & Only by Adrianne Finlay is a young adult science fiction fantasy read that has a side of romance to it. The story is told by alternating the point of view between the two main characters in the book Althea-310, a clone, and Jack, a human created by the clones.
The story is set in a city known as Vispera that has been the home to a group of clones for 300 years since the end of human life due to a plague. Before the humans died out they perfected the ability to produce clones in hopes that some small part of them would live on.
The clones have existed for the past 300 years by creating a new generation of themselves every ten years. Each generation consists of 9 different types of clones with ten of each type. Their names come from those that created them with a number denoting their generation and number of that model, for example Althea-310 comes from the 31st generation and is 0 out of her 10 sisters.
Jack was created by the clones in an attempt to bring back human life but he doesn’t fit into the world that they inhabit. A set of clones have raised him to be as human as possible but this makes him an outsider to the clones of his age but unlike the other clones Althea-310 finds herself curious about the human boy.
Your One & Only was a story that started off with a slow build as the author set the tone of the world in which the story takes place. The further I read into the book though the more I fell in love with her world building and creativity with this book. This one certainly seemed like an unique idea to have this world of clones existing for so long and how a human would fit in with their customs and traditions.
The further you get in this story the deeper it takes you becoming one that is full of action as the plot progresses. I was a tad concerned in the beginning that it might be a little confusing with the characters sharing such similar names but it was easy to understand as you get to know the few main clones that are featured in the story it was no different memorizing the number after the name than remembering completely different names for characters.
By the time I was finished with this one I actually kind of hoped that the author might consider continuing the story on as a series to see what happens next in this futuristic society. When finished I’d rate this book at 4.5 stars but I would also warn future readers that this one should be for the older teens as there are sexual situations incorporated into the story.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I couldn’t put this book down. The story is compelling and the world is beautifully created. It’s one of those stories that reminds us what it is to be human - pain, love, hope, failure, and all.
I received the book on Wednesday and just finished it...in five days. It was wonderfully easy to read in that there was a lovely flow and the story never ceased in it's richness. I enjoy this genre and was not disappointed. Of course the message it conveyed was much deeper as a whole and although a fiction, there is a plausibility of a reality. Hopefully a warning to our future. Well done Adrianne Finlay! Dare I hope for a sequel?
Your One and Only is gripping, bittersweet, suspenseful, and heartbreaking in the best way. I read it in less than 24 hours after receiving it. YO&O takes the dystopian novel genre and adds a level of personal relatability that many books leave out. Humanity, love, survival, and hope all make this a wonderful novel.
I loved this book. It's an exciting and intriguing look into the future with great characters, romance and intrigue. I highly recommend it!
Overall, I really enjoyed Your One & Only. It's exciting and interesting. She did a nice job of building a new world. The ending is deserved. And I really cared about the characters. I just hope they don't mess up the movie. (I have no idea if someone's going to make a movie of it, but I would go see it.) I can't wait for Adrianne's next book.
